Ticketmaster: The anti-hero

It’s me. Hi. I am a Swifty who did not get tickets for The Eras Tour pre-sale and I am heart-broken.

The November 22nd Ticketmaster pre-sale was a bust. No luck with the queue, no boost. Nothing. I just sat there starting at the map for three Tampa shows staring at a complete blank map. Everything was taken. Now what?

Well, we can either pay exuberant prices for tickets in the black market or just hope that you’ll catch her next time. But what boggles me is…..where are the remaining tickets that Ticketmaster didn’t sell them they decided to cancel the general ticket sale last Friday?

Ticketmaster’s CEO went on a national broadcast the other day, saying that due to high demands they couldn’t handle the pre-sale, when Swift mentioned herself they had PROMISED her they could take care of it. Why is it so hard for them to admit they made a mistake and instead of giving Loverfest, boosted fans access prior to pre-sale fans, they did it backwards? Not to mention the hundreds of thousands of people that were able to enter the queue and bypass EVERYONE?

Now as I sit here, refreshing StubHub, SeatGeek and other resale sites it shocks me that floor seats are going for over 2K each when they were only a couple hundred dollars day of sale? What is everyone doing about this, and why is this allowed?

Listen, I can understand if there was a mistake (that TM fails and will never admit to), they got the pre-sale backwards, they sold more than the 15% that was supposed to happen on day 1, therefore having to cancel general sale. However, how can you allow re-sellers to sell tickets that cost more than my mortgage? How can you sit there, look at these prices and be okay with it? Those tickets should be cancelled – period.

Ticketmaster removed the ability for sellers to transfer tickets within their site. Okay, that’s good, but what else are you doing? Would it be possible to cancel those re-sell tickets? To contact the seller and void such high prices? How can they sit there for a week and not do a thing about it?

Swift’s hands are tied. I understand the promoter has to sell tickets through Ticketmaster due to venue contracts. I get it. But this is not about a merchant responsible to sell the tickets. This is about allowing this to continue.

Years ago, Ed Sheehan went ahead and voided all the scalper tickets and did his pre-sale all over again. Why can’t Swift do something similar?

I am angry about the hundreds of fans who simply cannot afford to pay for these tickets and no one is doing anything to penalize people from charging thousands more than what they are worth.
