HOLLYWOOD, September 16, 2001 — Britney Spears has canceled her promotional tour of Europe and South America to be back home with her family, the Australian Associated Press reported on Saturday.
“After much thought and deliberation it is with great regret that I have decided to cancel my planned European and Latin American promotion trips,” Spears said through her record label, Jive Records.
Spears was only told of the hijacked aircraft attacks after her plane touched down Wednesday in Sydney, where she was doing a promotional tour for her upcoming album, Britney, due out Nov 6. “We arrived in Australia and only then heard of the terrible tragedies that had occurred in New York and Washington,” Spears said.
The teen singer will now skip her promotional tour in Cologne, Germany and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil this month and will return to the United States. It is still unknown if these dates will be rescheduled in the near future.
